Where to drink a beer in Porto

When it comes to good craft (and not only craft) beer, it always seems like looking for a decent place is easier than it really is.

Here I cover top pubs in Porto where you'll 100% find a decent choice of beers.

Baobab

Rua do Almada 377, 4000-303 Porto

Baobab is my go-to place on Friday evening (or Wednesday evening if the working week hits too hard 😅). They always have a huge selection of Portuguese craft beer. Moreover, the beer selection is always rotating. Every week you'll find something new on tap and in bottles.

You'll also find a lot of Eastern European beer (like Ukrainian and Polish) and beer from Baltic countries (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania).

One more reason for me to love this place is its owners. It's always nice to have a quick chat and to discuss what's happening in town. Also, I love how they designed this pub differently from the rest — no stereotypical, pub-like design. The name speaks for itself — the place has a lot of greenery and a cozy, relaxed vibe.

Sometimes a pop-up kitchen works here. To find out if there are any special events when you're visiting, follow Baobab on Instagram.

Catraio

R. de Cedofeita 256, 4050-174 Porto

I come to Catraio for two reasons: the food and the garden. Beer is good, don't get me wrong, but look at this burger and fries (no photo editing at all!!)! Imagine you're sitting in the green garden on the second floor, sipping your NEIPA or some fancy lager and eating THIS!

While there are some better and some worse days in the kitchen, 90% of the time the food is astonishing. The other 10% it's still better than what you can find nearby.

RCA - Radioclube Agramonte

R. João Martins Branco 180, 4150-431 Porto

This place is hard to find! Really! But it's totally worth looking for. Great vibe, good beer and wine selection, great music, often from vinyl. If you are looking for this kind of atmosphere, then you definitely need to visit.

I love the huge garden, perfect for big groups. If you have children, they'll have fun running around while you are sipping a beer and talking to a friend.

Food is delicious, though sometimes unbalanced. Worth trying, you won't regret it.

Gulden Draak

R. de José Falcão N. 82, 4050-315 Porto

I love the classics. Even though there is a lot of local beer in town, I still sometimes want to have a good glass of Belgian tripel or to have a bottle of Grand Cru (Monk's Cafe, Van Steenberge Brewery).

Gulden Draak is a place to go when I don't know where to go. Beer never disappoints, food is good enough. Sometimes I find the service a bit slow, but it's a minor thing.

This is not the final list. I am always looking for new places. If you think I should visit a pub not included in the list, contact me at kate@thekateeats.com.
